2008 Refunds from the IRS?
The IRS currently has over a $1 billion worth of unclaimed refunds in their possession from 2008 tax returns that simply were not filed. If you are one of these people, you only have until Tuesday, April 17, 2012 to comply in order to get this money back. There is no penalty for filing a late return qualifying for a refund.
If you don’t act fast it will disappear. The law only provides you with a 3 year window of opportunity to claim this refund. Even if you beat the deadline, your check can be held if you have not filed tax returns for 2009 and 2010. If any amounts are owed to the IRS, this refund can be applied to those years. They can even use this refund to offset child support or past due federal debts such as student loans.
